But - here's the rub - I'm blatantly going to. And not only because some publishers seem reluctant to embrace the kindle, but because solitary as reading can be, the love of reading is shared. Whilst I feed the convenient beast that is amazon (and feel guilty about it too what with the tax furore), the expertise in independent bookshops can't be matched. I only have to log onto twitter and see what @WELBooks has been saying to be reminded of that. It doesn't surprise me at all that authors such as Julia Donaldson are trying to help them survive. Nor does it surprise me that the truly great shops haven't gone under. When writing, I try more now to think about the senses and you can't beat holding a book in your hand. For me, the kindle is an increasing part of my reading pleasure; but I don't think it will ever completely fill it.
